One day I was reading Deuteronomy 32 and verse 19 stood out to me:
“This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live.” (Deuteronomy 30:19 TNIV)
Choose life. Those words really hit me. I immediately wanted to write something along those lines. I remember back in the 90s there was a song that came out called “Choose Life” to accompany the film Trainspotting. I only remembered the first couple of lines, “Choose life, choose a job, choose a career”. Whilst these things are good, I was more interested in what TRUE life was. I was reminded of the great verse in Galatians 2:20 which says,
“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” (Galatians 2:20 TNIV)
There it was. True life is found in the cross. Though we were dead in our sin, Jesus Christ gave up His life for us. Not just so we could go to heaven when we die, but so that we could have true life, now. True freedom, true peace, true hope, true love. In that we realise that Jesus Christ is the embodiment of True Life… He is life.
